CRETE

Georgioupolis is a tourist, seaside village built in a plush green area at the foot of the Almiros river. The village was named after Prince George, the supreme commissioner of Crete. The beach has nice sand and is about 10 km long.
The only lake in Crete can be found here. It is named Kournas Lake. In the prefecture of Chania, apart from the archeological and folkloric museums, you can see many monasteries, which age back to the 16th century or even before then.
One of the highlights of the area is the protected biotope in which some of southern europe's most rare spieces live.
